Someone told me yesterday thats its now classed as being racist to say the above line. Is this true. They said it was on the news, but i normally watch the news, maybe i was on holiday.
Anyway if it is true, how could it be classed as racist, it is not abusive to the sheep.
The term 'black sheep' could have racial connotations, I suppose. The black sheep of the family is the ne'er do well and is derogative.
But the sheep in the nursery rhyme is black and is not a slur on his character.
The reason black sheep are bred and placed in with a flock of white sheep, is so that the shepherd can locate his flock in the snow.
Nowt racist about that,' Black sheep of the family ' derives from this, i.e. being the one that stands out, the different one.
Only the looney left, tree huggers have attempted to classify 'baa baa black sheep' as racist, ask any sane black man if he is offended by the nursery rhyme.
I understand some people / groups did make an issue of this, however, these so called do-gooders simply do not have anything worthwhile to contribute to society and cause more segregation with their mad ideas.
