my house flooded last week i have lost everything,my daughter and myself are homeless.i told the council when i moved in in a phone conversation the roof was in bad repair but my housing manager said it would cost thousands to repair and they would not do it .on tuesday the mains pipe froze and when it thawed the pressure from the water blew it away from the water tank ,i have lost everything.i am supplying the electric to dry my house out ,i am still paying rent although i cant live there.and i have lost all the pictures my daughter drew and all her baby stuff i collected for her over the years this has broken my heart more than anything.i feel the council are to blame i am a single hard working parent , so to find myself in this situation is very stressfull, the council wont even put my dry stuff in store ,i am seeing my insurance asser tomorrow .the council still havent given me any answers although they have offerd to re house me but i have a dog and no furniture most of that was flooded for the past seven years i have broken my back going without and trying to bring my house up to good repair and now because they told me no we have lost everything please helpi finding it really hard to do everything on my own

i would go to an advisory and ask what your rights are regarding what has happened, are your things insured? and are you likely to get paid for anything thru insurance?, also i would go to the town hall, or wherever your housing office is based and sit there with your kids until they listen and give you somewhere decent to stay, they should do that for you on the day,...

have you presented yourself to the council as homeless? if the property is not suitable to live in whilst work is being carried out, they should look at arranging temporary accommodation for you
Question Author
yes they have offered emergency housing but with no bed or furniture its not really much help and i cant take the dog and my daughter loves her dog have got friends helping with that
emergency accommodation should have a bed and furniture - its exactly that, 'emergency' so would be ready for anyone to occupy.
if you arent looking for the council to accommodate you, what are you looking for them to do?
Question Author
i know what emergency housing is the last time i was in a place like that i had to scrubb it for four days, and bleach the bath and no they dont lay on furniture.the proberlem is dew to neglect on there behalf we are homeless so unless you can help please dont write back,
i don't think a burst pipe owing to low temperature is neglect on their part - it can happen to anyone!
If you are refusing the councils temporary emergency accomodation because you think it will be dirty, well that's your look out i guess - they can't offer you what they haven't got. If you have contents insurance, it is your insurance company that should sort out your furniture, not the council. it sounds like a horrible situation but i cant really see what the council could do apart from offer to rehouse you for the tie being (which you have refused) Really you are in no different position than anyone else whose pipes have burst, council or non-council. If you have spent money on improving a house that is not yours, well again that's your look out. Plus the council will restore it to a standard via their insurers
meant to say, freecycle (or freegle as it's called now) always has free beds/furniture on it, there are salvation army furniture shops etc you could appeal to.
I don't agree with you having to pay rent while you dont live there though

well bedknobb i have come on to this page for legal advice not abuse the roof has all holes in it and the council plumber said it was the councils fault because of the state of the roof ,not everyone is in my situation because there roofs are more than likely in good repair so i would be very greatfull if you would knobb off while i get some decent advice of someone whom deals in law.o and always becarefull whom you make fun of because one day it could be you and your family homeless
i would go to an advisory and ask what your rights are regarding what has happened, are your things insured? and are you likely to get paid for anything thru insurance?, also i would go to the town hall, or wherever your housing office is based and sit there with your kids until they listen and give you somewhere decent to stay, they should do that for you on the day, and also please accept what they give you for now, a bit of dirt can be cleaned up, i'll help you, if your in sheffield or rotherham, at least your children will have a nice warm home to stay in. good luck lovey and please let me know how you get on suzanne.xx
i am not making fun of you, i have given you advice about where you can get furniture so you can at least have somewhere to live while this mess gets sorted. i just really cant understand how if the mains pipe froze it could be related to holes in the roof?
Another answer is to go to the citizens advice bureau, they might be able to help. Also the charity Shelter can help you find accomodation.
You don't say so specifically, but it seems that you are a Council tenant. If so, the Council do have responsibilities for ensuring the property is kept in satisfactory repair & it may be that they have breached that responsibility. I suggest you contact your local CAB or ring Shelter (who have an advice service) & they may be able to give you better help.

Also, your Council's attitude (as you describe it) seems unreasonable - especially if you are a Council tenant. It may be worth contacting a local Councillor & seeing if he/she can put pressure on the Council officials to help you more.

thank you suzie for your kind offer of a warm house to stay but im more london ,thank you too marval and themas,i will go to c, a ,b, my pipe froze because of the holes in the felt and the missing tiles ,when the temprature dropped in the roof space the pipe froze, my heating was on in my house ,so i have done everything i can do to so my pipes didnt freeze.i sometimes look at the rest of the tennants in my street getting free this free that, all claiming benifits ,working partners living there screwing the system ,yet i get up everyday and go to work, being a single parent is very hard especially when your child is ill ,time off work .but i still carrie on i dont claim any benifits ,and i try and keep my home decent i also relise the house is not mine but i have the right to bye and can keep it as long as i pay my rent.all i wanted was a bit of advice about who should be paying all the extra money out and who is at fault at the moment i am trying to get my daughter to school, go to work deal with every one and get someone to take the blame ie the council.and how do i go about doing it ,

.
you really need to calm down and try actually comprehending what is being said to you...

at the moment you just sound like a petulant child
Question Author
joko you wanna stop sponging off the state re housing benifit, and living in your fathers house ,I wonder what your father wrote in the box is this person related to you .as you put it claiming for years on and off ,humm bet housing benifit would be delighted to get all the thousands of pounds back they have paid of your fathers morgage .people who live in glass houses .
hahahahaha....you really are a petulant brat arent you

what has any of what i or you said got to do with me and housing benefit?
grasping at straws in your desperation to defend your gibbering ungrateful nonsense just makes you look like a simpleton...i mean ''glass houses''...what? what are you talking about? none of this is connected...so how can it be a case of that? do you even know what that phrase means?

get a grip

i suggest you learn the law before you start making ill-educated statements...I wrote that he was my father on the forms...and guess what that is allowed! know why? because he is a landlord! you obviously didnt read the rest of the thread either did you...

I am also entitled to housing benefit when i am inbetween jobs...or should I just live in a cardboard box perhaps?

you really are a silly little man and your huffy little rants just serve to show people how uneducated you are.

you are on the wrong site if you want people to pander to you, lie to you and twist the law for you

oh no! Im devastated...a nameless faceless stranger on a website, who i will thankfully never meet and couldnt care any less about if i was dead, has called me a nasty name! how will i carry on?!

jeez even your insults are lame unimaginative and make you sound like kevin the teenager...

like i said, try to listen to what people are saying and stop being obnoxious because no-one is supporting your claims.

stamping your feet because you dont get your own way only works when you are 3.
