I've been sorting through old household receipts, some going back up to ten years, for such things as a new front door, roof repairs, plumbing and electrical jobs, etc. Apart from considering any guarantees that might be involved, how long is it necessary to keep receipts? I don't owe anything, but how long after a job has been paid for can the person who did the job come back and say that payment is outstanding?
Thanks Iggle Piggle, I'll wait a while longer. It would be a relief to chuck out a lot of old papers, but I would like to be sure I could do so without repercussions. Similar kind of thought about documents to do with selling my last home 13 years ago and moving to where I am now.

It might be an idea to keep the household ones in a pack to give the next owner for their information, but little other reason.
