My son has just started a new job with a local hotel. He has not yet been given a written contract confirming his hourly rate or minimum hours(hours are variable due to the nature of the hotel - busy periods etc) and his first wage packet came with no wage slip.

Although he did not log his hours worked this week he feels that he has been significantly underpaid but without a wage slip cannot be certain

Can anyone confirm what the law says regarding contracts and wage slips etc?

Thank you.

All employees have the right to receive a 'written statement of employment particulars' but only if they've worked for the employer for a minimum of one month. The statement must be provided within 2 months of starting the employment:

All employees are entitled to receive a detailed pay slip:

Iff he was taken on with a minimum contract off say 20 hours per week, and he acvtally worked more than that, it could be that overtime is paid in arrears, which is quite common, he cold be paid overtime pay just once a month even.
could he ask a co-worker, if any, what the practice is?
