if you are claiming job seekers and you are looking for work BUT dont get any replies and you decide to start selling bits and bobs on ebay or gumtree and you make around £400 each month from doing it, is it against the law to still claim JSA? These are used items that are being sold, not new, and its not a business BUT makes good enough money to live a proper life off whilst not working

Lots of assumptions, lotsafun. She has already said she in on contribution based JSA, which is paid for 6 months only and is not means tested.
You do not know that she has rent and council tax paid, nor that she gets any other state monies.

Another ridiculous statement. There are lots of people who get contribution statement JSA and not a penny more, because their partner earns too much or because they have savings, or redundancy pay.

I was only entitled to Cont based JSA. No housing help or tax help etc...

It is what it is. You have to just get on with it and struggle on.

Not if she's not on means tested benefits. She could have £1m in the bank and still be entitled to it.

as a user of freegle, i can tell you i wouldn't give a flying .... what the person did with the stuff once i had given it to them. the whole point to me is to just get it out of my house. If i can't be bothered to carboot/ebay it then more fool me

Everyone is entitled to JSA it is irrelevant how much money they have!

As long as they are JOB SEEKING they are entitled.

hi parrot lover.. luckily i've always been in full time employment. but If ever I became unemployed and had to live off JSA I'd do exactly what your doing, and i would'nt worry about it at all..I bet if there was a survey done on all the car booters in the land.. at least 50% of them are claiming benefits of some description, they are just trying to get extra money to make ends meet.. you carry on .. and i hope you find employment soon..

You estimate 30 hours, Eddie51. As long as the claimant is actively seeking work and is immediately available for week, spending 30 hours a week on a hobby is not unreasonable. Just over 4 hours an evening. It does not mean that she is working if she is selling her own stuff.
