would you report your own father for benefit fraud?

if for example they have filled in the forms and after 3 months of waiting has been given the highest rate of mobility and care components but you know for a fact that they walk miles everyday to go shopping or just to get out and about, uses steps and stairs no problems and requires no care or supportt with bathing, dressing, toilet needs day or night...
i have informed my dad he is commiting fraud and o let them know, he just says i told the truth on my forms.
i know how hard it was for my nan to get these rates of dla and she couldnt walk, stand or get to the toilet and needed care around the clock.
moral and legal dilemma

what is he claiming that is wrong with him?, they do not normally award the highest benefit without some sort of medical proof of his condition

People who get these benefits have to pass a strict medical. Perhaps tweenyb's father hasn't mentioned the extent of his disability to her?

hi have a disabled son and had to fight to get DLA for him yet others lie on forms.. im sorry but id personally be doing something about it! its hard enough to get what a medically ill person needs without others still frauding the system

That is why I asked sandy, getting DLA at the highest rate is not something that is easy to claim without some significant medical backup. quite a lot of the invisible disabled get abuse regularly on similar grounds that they look okay therefore they must be defrauding the system.

he is 64 and hasnt had a medical i know because he would of told me (trust me he doesnt shut up about whats wrong with him).
he has had a heart bypass about 2 years ago and since then has developed arthritis.
the dla have contacted his doctor but as my father is notorious for lying (i only recently let him back into my life a couple of years ago due to the heart attack thing)
eg when he married my mum he told her he had a terminal illness and got her to drop him at the hospital twice a week, we dont know where he went from there cos it wasnt the hospital. he just has a narcisistic personality problem and wants pity and to live for free. i want him to contact tghe dla and say he thinks therre has been a mistake but he says "i was honestb on the forms so its what theyve given me".... hmmmm im not so sure but im sure if he contacted them he wouldnt be in trouble, i know he wont cos hes greedy and we are now no longer talking

one of the (many) questions on a DLA claim form asks if you can walk a certain distance (400 yards??) without having to stop, sit down, feel pain, get breathless, etc.

if tweeny's father walks miles every day, I would doubt his entitlement to the higher rate mobility component.

by the way im disabled and on dla med carers and high mobility but i have had multiple physicals and i am far less mobile than my father and i do have a carer - hence how i know the system requirements, otherwise id never know that he is cheating

although he only ended up with a Community Service order, and is repaying the amount overclaimed.

If he is found out he is liable to be taken to court, therefore he should be made to admit it to the authorities as soon as possible!

If he's 64 won't he be due to retire and draw a pension sometime during the next 12 months, so surely his DLA won't last very long?.......or do I not understand the system properly and the DLA will continue after his 65th birthday?

you dont have access to his medical records to be fair and for him to be granted DLA there must have been something in it that convinced them he was a genuine claimant (they dont just write down everything he tells them, they do medical tests)

given your hostile feelings towards him I see why you want to report him now. If he is genuine his claim will be looked at and scrutinised. ...your call.
