I claim income support and incapacity benefit, it adds up to £93.45 a week. I want to move in with my boyfriend who works and earns just under £14,000 a year. Will I still be entitled to my money or will it be the case that he is expected to keep me?
Thanks, if anyone knows the answer....

"of course they are not Anne but a hell of a lot of them are"

so basically its okay to assume someone is a sponger because a "lot of people are"..?
same with DLA, why do people assume that someone is not disabled because the seem ok to them?
Well that to me is suspicious-something to hide/lose or gain then.
doc, i know quite a few people who have applied for DLA and who have a very genuine illess, who have paid taxes for 40+ years and been refused, but their issue is that they tell the truth in forms and assessments,so where you may well know of people who are abusing the system, i equaly know people where the system has failed them, and my point is not everyone on benefits is a scrounger, and some people have to live on less than £100 per week.

"One even offered to lend me his walking sticks to help with my application. Unfortunately too old to claim".

you mean you would have defrauded the system had you been able to?
Ive never claimed.I tried housing benefit once when I was really ill -just to see me over a bad patch-was on no pay from work.Had a mortgage-wasnt entiltled to anything at all and had to sell up and buy smaller.Fair does some may say -but if I had had help then i would still be in work and in the same house.Bugs me to this day -the harder you work the more youre penalised in this country.

Husband came home at 5 pm , id have tea ready then be off out to work till 10pm 4 nights a week
I take my hat off to mrs puss .... ( lol if i wore one i would ) : )
ladybird -ditto.We both just worked our arses off.
When my husband was laid off due to the foot and mouth disease for the first time ever he tried to claim-an iterim measure--they had him jumping through hoops in the end he told them to stuff it and he worked the fields planting in freezing cold weather up at the crack of dawn rather than be insulted. He's 50 and hasnt claimed in his life but put plenty in yet couldnt even get a stop gap help.S0ds !!!

These posts sadden me as well. But not for the same reason.

First, why assume the OP wants to defraud the benefit system? Anyone who has need to contact the various arms of that system knows that it can easily take a long time to do so - & the answer you get is not always the right one. Doesn't seem unreasonable to me to put a post on here to try & find out the position.

Second, OK - there are people who sponge & scrounge using benefits but there are a hell of a lot more who don't. It's unfair to write in a way which gives the impression (albeit unintentionally) that you're guilty until proven innocent..
a growing number of people now hear the word benefits and quickly assume the person receiving them must be cheating the system, and for all you abers who think being on basic benefits is great, let me assure you it is rubbish, and all who say my oh and i work very hard,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so did many people on benefits, just dont be too quick to condemn everyone. one day all you "hard working " people may just have to rely on assistance.
themas -on the presumption she has jumped through the hoops and is now in the 'system' then I cant understand why she is posting here asking for advice.
Getting in the 'system' seems to be the most difficult thing -once youre there youre sorted so to speak.
Haven been there -I only contribute same as both my husbands my parents my grandparents -none ever claimed.I tried and couldnt as I hadnt taken the easy option -I had grafted to own a home and was penalised.- I only wanted a little help as well as I still had a job at that time -swines (thats the cheats and the system)
Well said pinki btw !!!
I think its terribly sad that anyone in this day and age looks into the financial situation before marrying or living with a partner.

Call my a softy, but hardly romantic is it?
