7.5 tonne vehicles having to drive at 40mph

Your driving along in your HGV and you see the standard sign telling vehicles which weigh over 7.5t that the speed limit is 40, these signs do not tell you for how long you have to sit at that speed so how do you know when your allowed to go back up to the national speed limit?
