How do I get a Disclosure for employment?
8 Answers
Not sure of the exact name of it, but may need a Criminal Records Check in the future. May seem a silly question, but how do I get this, and how much does it cost?

My employer is a Registered Body so if we need them for work, the official in our organisation issues the application forms and pays the fee to the Criminal Records Bureau. A copy of the report goes to the Registered Body and a copy to you.
I do some voluntary youth work and for that purpose, our Registered Body was the Youth section of the local County Council.

Who can apply for a CRB Check?
CRB checks cannot be obtained by members of the public directly but are only available to organisations and only for those professions, offices, employments, work and occupations listed in the Exceptions Order to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
For this reason your application will be processed either by your employer, if it is registered with the CRB, or a third party organisation, called an Umbrella Body, which is registered with the CRB.
A self employed person would have to go through an employer who has contracted them or approach an umbrella body to do it on their behalf. Local authorities usually.
