In June 2010 I was sentenced and disqualified from driving for 6 months. It was due to 4 speeding fines of doing 38mph in a 30mph zone. About ten years ago I could not drive due to a medical condition (which is no longer) so when I moved to another address I sent these details to the medical centre as Swansea not realising that this was incorrect. Therefore I was unaware that I was clocking up points, (had I received the first letter of my speeding details Numbers 2,3 and 4 would not have occured and I would not have been banned. Instead I got all 4 letters in 1 envelope which came as a complete shock these dates were over a coupe of months. I have now got my licence back and have bought a lovely Ford Puma. I nearly had heart failure when I saw what it was to insure 3rd party fire and theft (this is due to the offence code of TT99. Comprehensive over £1,000. I was fined £80 court costs. How can I get this insurance down. Any suggestions. I feel quite sick, I didn't deliberately try to dodge court or mislead the DVLA in anyway. Replies much appreciated.

you will be seen as a bad risk, and there is nothing you can do to get the insurance quotes down except carrying on driving at or below the speed limit and the insurance will get better over the years
Lots of people have to pay £1000 for fully comp, but you may save by shopping around.
I don't understand about the four fines. Were all four related to a single offence? I also don't understand the bit about "not realising that this was incorrect"- what was incorrect?

I was wrong to send my change of address to the medical department at swansea DVLA and should have sent it to just DVLA it seems incomprehensible to me that the medical centre did not pass these details on. Iwas caught on camera on 4 different occassions (ironically at the same place) but did not receive the first letter because it was sent to my old address consequently so ere the other 3. Until somehow the tracked me down and sent all 4 in 1 envelop, Hence 12 points. On my licence it shows No penalty points now so if I did get caught speeding again would I be disqualified or am I clear (I certainly don't intend to speed, but I would like to know where I stand). I have been driving for 31 years and have never had an accident and never made a claim I'm quite broken-hearted.
I have to say I'm a bit confused about why you say if you had got the first fine, you wouldn't have got the others. Did you not know there was a speed trap?

Anyway, do you know anyone who has a long and sparkling driving history? Sometimes if you add someone as a named driver to your policy it can lower the premium. I know this as fact as it's happened a few times with policies I deal with. Having said that, I should say you can not do it the other way around, i.e. getting someone else to take a policy out on your car and adding you as a named driver, it's illegal.

Hope I haven't made that confusing.

Hello Milly143
Well had they received my new address I would have received the first letter about the fine and would have been very aware and much more alert to the speed I was going hence I wouldn't have done it again, I wouldn't have lost my licence for 6 months and wouldn't be facing the horrendous Insurance charges.
you should not need 'shocking' into adhering to the speed limit... you should have taken more care from the start

that is no defence
Yesterday - you seem to be trying to impart some of the blame for your ban and increased insurance premium to someone else. You must have a speedo and I'm sure it's in working condition (it's illegal for it not to be). There's no reason for you to exceed the speed limit anywhere as you can see the speed you are doing all the time. If you hit a pedestrian at 40mph you will kill 9 out of 10 but if you hit them at 30mph then 9 out of 10 will survive.

I don't want to be accused of lecturing but you are entirely to blame - not the DVLA in any shape or form!
You shouldn't have been caught speeding in the first instance, let alone 4 times at the same place.

You won't get your insurance premium reduced other than by shopping around using the various comparison web sites, although nowadays it is often cheaper to insure Fully Comprehensive rather than Third Party, Fire and Theft.
The police must advise you of an alleged speeding offence within 14 days. The speeding charge cannot otherwise be sucessfully pursued. See the various sppeding websites for further info.
