The tests are different surely. OH is a driver and he says no you can't. PCV surely entitles you to drive a bus up to 18 tonnes, not haulage vehicles.
No, you can't

Your C1 allows you to drive a vehicle up to 7.5 tonnes and the C1E allows that vehicle to be driven with a trailer that must not weight more than the vehicle when fully loaded - a total weight of 15 tonnes but not as simple as driving just *a* vehicle
Your PCV licence allows you to drive (in your case) an automatic gearbox driven bus or coach. To lawfully drive an HGV rigid, i.e. a goods vehicle over 7.5 metric tonnes which is not an articulated vehicle, you must pass the appropriate test.
What you may drive is a goods vehicle UP TO 7.5 tonnes if you passed your test before 1.1.97. The rules then changed and another test is required.
