Thank you Bedknobs, in this person's case it's his reputation, trust within the job he holds, Yes Sanydroe that would be the cheapest option but the person that came out with this slanderous remark has got away with this before, but the person the allegations are directed too WILL TAKE IT FUTHER, an apology will not do as the person that has said it is an evil piece of work with the persons mouth.
The point, its not for financial gain, nor promotion in any form, the person in Question is in a position of trust ( Elderly people) the person that has alleged is a person that has been known for causing trouble in previous homes & moved twice, we are not going too far into this it's just knowing the cost, with respect with your help.

As mentioned a solicitors letter would put the frighteners up someone if you're being harassed; these cost about £25 upwards. With a court case you would be looking at around £1000 minimum in fees - the question is, is it worth it? Also take in to accounts days off work, phone calls and the time it would take.
hi sorry twr, but to sue for slander you have to prove a financial loss (although you can sue for them not to say it again rather than for money)

alexl - £1,000 minimum in fees? That sounds like a drop in the ocean tbh. In my experience a case such as this would attract fees for each side in the region of £10-£15k. Although it's impossible to tell without knowing the full facts.
Just based on the nature of the case and the likely track I think I am underestimating it.

I thank you all for your response & advise, yes it will cost a lot a bit too much for this person to lay out, but what do you do when you know this person has done absolutely nothing wrong in their trusted employment with the elderly & some evil b@stard tries to tarnish the persons character, Bedknobs, that link the person has printed & will look into the options, again thank you all for you time & comments.
