When we bought our home 37years ago .There is a clause on the deeds ,stating that no viecles are to overnight park on the main road on the whole estate..There are about 27 houses .and all houses have a drive and a garage.
A young couple have just moved into a relitive of theres house which next door to us ,with a white work van ,and insists on leaving outside the house ,on the main road .It not only is the main thing that we can now see through our lounge window ,but it also obsquers our view when we reverse out of our drive .
We have asked them if its possible for them not to please leave it there, and the reply was It a nice looking van isnt it !!!!!!!!
How do we leagely stand as far as the deeds, and what can do about getting them to move this van .

They have a driveway and garage, so they should be parking in their own driveway! Maybe they don't realise that this is set out in the deeds!..............In which case, you could tell them in a friendly way, that this is the case!.........

Can anyone tell me why these clauses on the deeds where put there in the first place if not for a purpose? There the only ones on the whole estate that are on the road.
There garage is full of rubbish ,
Mrs c. it is hard to draw the line between 'anything for a quiet life' and letting someone use you for a doormat. Perhaps that is why I am interested to see what happens. Personally I would take the easy option. Cars and vans park outside my house on a regular basis and I just ignore them. The kids in the street were mending their mopeds outside today. Very noisy, but they cleared up their mess when they had finished. I even gave them some sandwiches. After all they have to enjoy something.
But then, I am very easy-going. (until someone really annoys me and then watch out)
Loads of things can change in 37 years. I'm only 37 now....I remember playing out as a child and there being barely any cars. That was because barely anyone had a car (or van)
Just pleased I do not own a car. Have a drive and a garage. Garage full. No storage space in flat. Downstairs neighbour parks on my drive.(No drive or garage) Helps the parking problem in my Close. Only pleased to help.
You are quite right ummmm. Makes you wonder why they put in the clause in the first place. Is it a rich neighbourhood?
Who dreamt up these deeds and did your neighbours have the same copy as you?

Who will be responsible to see that all the residents are complying?

Is the 'estate' owned by a 3rd party - i.e. developer - still?

Does your neighbour have another neighbour on the other side and what is their opinion?
Sylvia just bear in mind that if you end up in a legal dispute with your neighbour then if you want to sell your house you will have to mention this to your buyers. Is it worth it? Maybe the couple won't be staying there for long - hopefully.
I do agree with you Starbo. But then again, you and I are reasonable people.

I've witnessed unpleasantries over "neighbour wars" .... I know someone who recently had to move house because of a fall-out with the neighbour. It was quite sad as it really was all over a misunderstanding, but some peeps are hell-bent on revenge if they think they've been wronged.
I hope I never have to experience anything like that Mrs.c. It is just not worth it. Thank goodness my neighbours are all good ones and look after me as I am old. Even the kids on their mopeds all call me grandma. It is a very nice street to live in. I know if I went to the front door and yelled help, they would pop out from everywhere. I am still interested to know how other people live though, Just naturally nosey.
I'm glad you have good neighbours, Starbo. It's good to know they are looking out for you.
Sylvia hasn't answered. Have we been led down the garden path, or in this case the drive? I am so suspicious lately, I tend to check and this is someone who has only just joined with one question and one post. So I am obviously never going to know the answer.
Star....remember, most people join because they google a question and get brought here. It's also 1.45am...most sane people are in bed :-)
An interesting question though, even if it isn't real.
Is it the day to put the clocks forward ummmm? I'm not sure, I haven't checked. I've got 12.45. You are quite right about both things. It is time I was in bed but I keep hoping there will be an answer. Perhaps I'll leave it and check again tomorrow.
Thought I'd lost an hour there Starbuck. It is only 12.45 or I've had too much vodka.
I don't know what I was looking at there....anyway...still late.
Yes, night all then. I should have been in bed an hour ago at least.
Goodnight Starbo.

And just in case you didn't see my comment earlier .... very well done on your achievement. x
get on to the council about their garage being fulll of rubbish and also try to to find out how they could afford a mortgage.

Fgs, live and let live and after 38 years, get a life
