Last Thursday I had idea in the middle of the night that I seriously believe will make me very rich if only I knew how to go about putting it into production. I am not at all well off as I am retired. I know I would have to have it patented but couldn't`t even afford that as it`s quite expensive to do so. I hope to live long enough to see my family looked after, and help Children in need. Please, no ridiculous comments. I am very serious.

However you proceed, costs are inevitable. But you might get some help and advice here.
Eventually you will have to tell someone what your bright idea is if you are going to get it into production - particularly if you can't afford to go solo. The internet is a good start. Trying 'Googling' a few key words until you find a company who may be interested in manufactuing your idea. You can either arrange a joint venture or sell your idea for a percentage of the profit if they market it with their own product line.

Have you spoken to the bank? They love a good investment. You will need to come up with a Business Plan etc.

Many thanks `heathfield` and `dunwerkin` for your advise. I hope to inform you of any progress in the future.
I remember reading somewhere that it costs something in the order of 10,000 to obtain a basic patent on an idea ( typical costs cover searches etc. to establish that your idea is new and truly unique ).

I also remember reading that prior to discussing your idea with anybody, it is wise to lodge a sealed package detailing your invention / idea's with your bank, the package should be signed and dated on the outside by the bank manager and deposited in the bank. This could be very useful if somebody you discuss your invention with tries to claim ownership of your idea.

Hope you have success.

Thanks to all, I`m afraid I have abandoned the idea as I couldn`t possibly affored the costs to get started, shame, but, there you are. I expect there are many in the same boat as myself who`s ideas get sunk before they get a chance to help others.
were on this road... its a bloody nightmare... and even when we do finally produce it, the chinese weill have a slightly different version on ebay in a few days.. and its not covered by patent or copyright laws...

if youve a good idea, build a prototype to prove the concept and take it to some venture capitalists. (the bank)

failing that, build them and flog em... if the chinks do make a copy, we can still sleep soundly in our beds as we know it'll be a substandaard piece of junk, which will break...

we can NEVER compete on price.. but we CAN beat them hands down when it comes to quality and longevity.
