What about Fern then? All that encouragement for Charlie for his great weight loss, then she goes and cheats!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.poor fern - who cares that she's had an op? people just don't like the fact she's lost weight. how many celebrities will have had a nose job, face lift, tummy tuck, etc., and lied about it? it's nobody's business except hers. she looks great and seems a really nice person and i say good luck to her. people ought to mind their own business or worry about something important like when are we going to get some sun!!!
The difference is she has constantly said her weight loss is down to diet and exercise. She has taken money from Ryvita for advertising its slimming products - which is plainly wrong.
I agree it should be nobody's business - she should have refused to comment at all and she should have refused the advertising deal.
But sadly she chose to make it everyone's business - giving advice about how to lose weight on her programme, in various magazines and fitness videos.
She would have continued to do so, had she not been 'outed'.
How many ordinary women now are going to think that if she can't lose weight through diet and exercise, being married to a chef who is an expert in nutrition and with access to the all the professional help anyone could want - why bother trying?
This is why I am steaming about it. Fern should either have admitted it from the beginning, or refused to comment and profit from her weight loss.

sorry to disagree with you ethel.
her weight loss IS down to eating less and exercising more. the gastric band has helped her to eat less. as for the ryvita advertising, ryvita were obviously very happy for her to advertise their product and the adverts are very tongue in cheek, we all know it wasn't fern's body shown in them, just her head superimposed on a slim body.
and anyone with half a brain would know that pilates isn't weight-loss exercise, you would never lose any weight just by doing pilates. and if ordinary women think the only way to lose weight is by having a gastric band, then there are a lot of very uninformed women out there!!
as i understand it, she hasn't actually lied, she just hasn't (until now) told anyone that she had the op. how many other well knows people have had 'work' done on themselves that we know nothing about and never will? probably more than we could imagine.
weight loss and body image is a very, very personal thing and i say again, good luck to her.

We must choose to differ. Ryvita is fuming as they didn't know she had the surgery. Yes, they were tongue in cheek, but by advertising Ryvita whilst losing weight it is easy to link the two.
There is a whole big difference between eating less through will power, and eating less because you can't physically eat more.
She has lied more than once about it.
You may not lose weight with Pilates but you do change shape - I know, I've been doing it for a long time.

at the end of the day, it has sod all to do with the general public what shes does, she has never stearnly denied having surgery, shes just never mentioned it, because be honest, if you have surgery, is the first thing you think, o i better tell the whole of the UK what ive had done... NO. give the poor women a break, good on her for doing what she wants, and to lose that much weight, she has dont healthy eating and exercise aswell so she hasnt lied there
At the end of the day, she is a very nice person and has done plenty to encourage people to be happy this themselves and to take on a healthy lifestyle!
If she wanted to have an op to help her lose weight then thats fine! She she had stayed big just to please others!
I understand people feeling disappointed that she has done this when she said it was down to eating and excersize, but maybe the reason she didn't say was because she knew peoples attitudes would be like this!

Thanks Julius. I always thought it tasted like cardboard to.
I think she doesn't look as good now. She looks haggard.
If the weight lose has made her feel better about herself then good for her.
Other wise She had an op, big deal. No different to the plastic fantastic brigade like Cher and her buddies.
Saw a piccie of her the other day. If thats what plastic surgery does I'll stick to the mug I have now thank you.
