No I can't watch.
I'm watching it the now...how the hell are they getting away with subletting council property? Someones obviously raking it in....as usual!!
And the house where the reporter is staying the woman is having more and more children then saying she has no room!! Some people don't help themselves do they.
How times have changed. I grew up on a council estate. Everyone in our street was working full-time (not the kids. It wasn't THAT long ago)

exactly! council houses should be there to help people that cant work that have no way of affording a house. Then there are people that try do things right through buying or renting and struggle to have a family.
Did you see the size of the telly in the room? Thats how it is in the street where I live where some of the houses are rented out . They have state of the art of everything much better than what I have had to work for all my life. Keep having more kids so they don't have to work. They have more holidays than I do.
When we were kids, Dad had to be assessed as a hard working man with references from his employer before we could be considered for a council house.

I know we need a safety net these days for those unable to work but there has to be a way to control it surely.

all on credit. cant believe just said you can own another property and still have council place as long as you dont sub let it.

£495 a month paid towards rent when her baby arrives and she's still moaning! Pees me off!

my friend had a house but because with mortgage but through bad circumstances couldnt pay the mortgage and got house took away. And council wouldnt help her or her 2 daughters yet help lazy layabouts. I found her somewhere to rent before she was on the streets.
I remember when I was a kid that the council used to snoop on it's tenants and they were in trouble if they had a car or something luxurious. What happened?
It baffles me. My Dad was brought up in a tiny 2 bed cottage....there was 13 kids.
When we moved into our council house in 1930 (I was three) you had to be practically on the bread line and you got no help whatsoever. Someone came round to check you were keeping your garden tidy and cutting the hedges. You weren't allowed to swing on the gate. You couldn't do your own decorations - they came round once ever five years and just put that flat stuff on forget what you call it, but I keep thinking of distemper (that's dogs isn' it). They let you choose a colour - buff, blue, pink or green. You were not allowed to get into arrears with the rent - the rent man came round every week to collect it. If you didn't pay you were out. Pity it isn't like that now. The man who moved in next to me two years ago has never touched his garden. It is full of grass and weeds, especially dandelions. No-one does a thing about it. We saved up and bought this house - It was hard work but it would be nice if other people looked after theirs, whether council houses or not.
It was an eye opener, but not surprising.

The couple who lived in the very damp rented house - when showing the reporter around, I thought what a bloody mess, there were clothes strewn all over the floor and it looked like a tip.

I think with more immigrants coming into the country, the housing situation will only get worse. There needs to be more council housing building projects - there are plenty of private ones, here in Essex every available piece of land gets built on.
I was so angry, the policeman in the prog, should be sacked, they know who he is
Part of the problem is, there are now whole law firms who specialise in litigation for whingers. So instead of getting on, tidying up, digging the garden over and growing some cabbages many people grow up believing life is about watching telly and sucking your thumb while looking for someone else to get compensation from.
Mosiac - that is so very true. Thats was my point about the couple in the damp house. Also the two big lads that had to sleep on the settee - why not get a couple of cheap z-beds - you can pick them up cheap in the local newspapers etc. I know it doesn't solve the need for more bedrooms, but it gets them off the settee. Also their duvets looke like they needed a wash. (:o(
