I cannot believe how thick and lacking in general knowledge some of the younger contestants are on this show...On Friday night... two "beautiful"! people lost hundreds of thousands pounds in their belief that Roger Bannister was the first man to "put the lavatory seat down" ye gods the mind bogles. Why don't the producers have some older contestants on the show, pensioners even, they may not be eye candy, but at least they would not embarass themselves and the viewing public with their lack of knowledge.

To be honest Auntie there doesn't seem to be alot of people who have any general knowledge at all. You only have to watch the Weakest Link to hear some of the ridiculous answers people give. My eldest daughter swears she passed her General Studies at school because she used to watch 15 to 1 many years ago with me - I was a huge fan - in fact if I get my hands on a general knowledge crossword it keeps me engrossed for ages!

Yes, auntie, I don't know how some people just saunter through life without an inkling of interest at what's going on around them, or curiosity about things that happened in the past.

I couldn't believe they didn't know that JFK died in 1963 and the Queen's coronation was 1952. The could have worked out that the Queen married and had children before the coronation. Also, I thought everyone knew that karaoke (spelling) was Japanese !!

I think you're making the comoon mistake of equating knowledge with intelligence. Whilst one tends to exist with the other, it doesn't always follow. And furthermore, if you Were making a programme with the potential to give away £1m, would you favour people who were older and more knowleDgable or younger people who might cost you a lot less. Must admit some of them are particularly stupid tho i.e. Not knowing that Cumbria is further north than bakewell.

I'd like to know what the schools are teaching the kids now. It's certainly not general knowledge. I was in a coffee shop last week, a girl of about 20 served me and I gave the coffee credit points card and another guy had to come and show her what to do with it, which was fair enough. Then he said to her that people could either have points added to the card, or they could redeem the points on the card. She asked him what he meant by "redeem"! I was gobsmacked, just couldn't believe that she could be so thick.

I would become exasperated with answers like that and just turn the programme off. That defeats the object of the producers to have large viewing figures for their advertisers.

Re "what are they teaching in schols", beginning to sound like the DM, but as I used to tell my pupils, I am here to teach, you are here to learn. So many never understood the interactive nature of learning.
It'll be a long time before the Beautiful People from Friday can go out in public again, Davina even told them they looked so good they ought to have babies! Pass the house brick please.
