Some introduce themselves as 'reading' a subject and others say they are 'studying.' Is there a difference between the two terms?

I was always inder the impression that 'reading' a subject was simply an Oxbridge term for 'studying', and put it down to the elite status of the two establishments, and their desire to be different...It probably has a history, though, and I'm going to go Google it :)

I'm no nearer to a definite answer then but, after watching UC for a while, my best guess was the same as Lodekka's.

I am with Lotus and think it just oxbridge being different. It seems to have spread though...
