I have started watching Vera again and Mr Q and I are liking it. We watched the first episode and weren't much impressed. I thought Vera looked like a bag lady (I think it was the hat) and also we'd been watching Lewis - all sunshine and dreaming spires - and it was very different scenery now and apparently no sun! All seemed rather gloomy though the storyline was good. So we persevered with the 2nd episode and have changed our minds and are firm Vera fans. (Joe is very nice too!) Knew Brenda Blethyn would win us round in the end.

I agree, this is exactly what happen to me.
She is described as looking like a bag lady in the books quizzywig. I realy do wish I hadnt read the books first because the TV series is nothing like them, but Im enjoying them just the same
five minutes into the first episode i realised i'd read the book but actually really enjoyed the tv adaptation. i liken the way it's filmed, and the scenery, to a bit like 'wallander' with kenneth brannagh - moody, grey, tense - but don't feel this detracts from it but rather enhances it, something a bit different.
and of course, good old brenda blethyn never lets you down.
on a similar but different note, i've just taken delivery of 'time travellers wife' on dvd. having read and enjoyed the book (in a puzzled, confused kind of way) i'm hoping the dvd will make things clearer!
Yes, same here...I thought the first was ok but I've enjoyed the rest even more. Joe is lovely :o) ...last one on Sunday I think, No 4?

You know ethandron the first time I watched Vera I immediately thought of the Kenny Branagh Wallander series. Loads of horizon and big sky shots.
I slated Vera when it first appeared but agree it has improved since then.
