I was wondering if anyone knows the name of an old black and white film in which the story primarily revolves around a train which I think is called the sergeant.  I thought the film was called the Sergeant but it turns out I was wrong.  The main character did all his own stunts though, one scene has him throwing a sleeper to hit another out the way whilst sitting on the plow at the front of the train.  Thank you for your help.

Thanks for both of your really quick responses.  Yeah, once I you said the General, it clicked on a light bulb.  Well, I kind of got it right, just the wrong rank.  Thanks again.

If you're not familiar with Keaton, Lomax, see him in something ASAP. One of the funniest men the cinema has ever produced. The General is a great film.

Steamboat Bill Jr is the one In a Pickle is looking for. All of Keaton's work is great, though sound and drink pretty much did him in.
