Dull Saturday nights viewing.

Rather fed up with the present Saturday TV programmes, I decided to search my DVD archives and I came across a copy of 'The One That Got Away'.

This is a black & white film of a true story about a German POW who tried several times to escape from English POW camps and then finally escaped back to Germany from a Canadian POW camp.

Although I had seen it years before at the cinema, I was still left totally enthralled by the film from start to finish, and it turned an otherwise dull TV viewing night into a superb one.

Have any old movies done the same for you?

I've got many of the Ealing comedies on good old VHS. I can watch them time and time again (along with the Pink Panther movies).

If I was that bored the last thing I'd want to watch is a depressing film set in
a prison of war camp. I'd rather put some music on and dance around the
front room naked!

My favourite oldies are anything done by Columbo. I love these programmes and record them all and can watch them over and over again. They're classics.

I watched the African Queen yesterday afternoon on TV, a real classic - I hope they never try to remake it.

Luckily he made plenty and they are all very easy to watch many times! I was saddened by his death. Was expecting though as I read he had been in a wheelchair for a while.

Yes, there were loads of them weren't there grasscarp, thank goodness! I watched the one recently where George Hamilton killed his blackmailer with an overdose of nicotine, but of course as soon as Columbo looked at the ashtray, he suspected foul play - priceless!

I have Whisky Galore on VHS. Classic film and very funny. Anyone know if it is out on DVD? Some light fingered b@stard broke in and nicked my video recorder, but the silly sod left my DVD player, plasma TV and car keys alone. Says a lot for the intelligence of the average burglar. Maybe my cat frightened him away.

I agree with old git's opinion of Saturday night telly. It is complete rubbish. Being away from home during the week most weeks means I have a bulging sky+ library to fill the hours when I am home of a weekend.

Some years ago I watched a B&W film where the star of the movie pretended to be a wax-work model. It was hilarious. The re-make was a load of codswallop.

I've still got my VHS player and glad I am I never got rid of it. I can go into any charity shop in the High Rd and buy VHS tapes 3 for a £1, have got some wonderful Disney stuff for the kids and great films. When I've got quite a few after watching I take 'em back for them to sell again.

I watched an animal programme on Saturday early evening it was hilarious, the animals appeared to be talking I found it amusing, I can't remember what it was called.
My favourite B/W film was Hobsons Choice.

Had to look it up, It was called a walk on the wild side, Jason Manford was the voiceover for the animals, try to watch it, I laughed at yesterdays programme.

I agree, Saturday nights TV is diabolical! I watched a DVD of A Town Like Alice - fantastic film, as good as the book!

all total garbage ITV are guilty for all these reality shows they churn out,
going to the pub is expensive too, we have been watching some of the many DVDs we have , yet haven't seen and some we have, like auf wiedersehen pet and Roots, Boys from the Blackstuff Peter Kay etc
