Read the hullabaloo today about Jeremy Clarkson's opinion of the BBC moving to Salford, and Stuart Hall's response. Let's put things in perspective here. Clarkson is not one of those 'Southern Poofs' who has previously been giving out about this proposed move. He is a Yorkshire Lad from Doncaster. A Tyke. And that is the root cause of his unease. You'd never get a Tyke t'tek easy t'west o'Pennines and vice versa.

BTW I know Salford well and his description was spot on. It is a sh1t hole.

tis true, it is.

Mind you, id disagree with Jeremy Clarkson, just 'cause it was him who said it, daft overgrown twonk that he is.
Clarkson is a misogynistic pile of poo
don't know salford, however he always seems to put his foot in it, though why the BBC feels the need to upsticks is beyond my understanding
sorry I quite like clarkson... for all he can be a complete pillock and a bigot and as for homophobic if anyone saw 'star in the reasonably priced car' with Will young will realise its probably not a gay thing with him as he was quite happy to come off worse and let Will get the best lines I don't think he likes the pompous and the pretentious
With all the BBC money floating about will Salford become the Islington of the north?
Clarkson seems to have been born out of his time. He seems to be a man who would have been happier holding court in the saloon bar of a roadside tavern of 50 years ago.
This is the second post about Clarkson this mo but on a completely different subject. Is he digging his own grave?

I think Clarkson is fantastic - his column in The Sunday Times is worth the price of the paper alone.

It is very trendy to show a dislike for Clarkson, which I suspect in a lot of cases is an exercise in bandwagon jumping.

Clarkson won't move to Salford because the Top Gear track is in Surrey, the production office is in London and he lives in Oxfordshire and London, and as TG is sold around the world at a massive profit to the BBC, and as TG is Clarkson, if he says he isn't going to work from Salford then TG will not move. It really is as simple as that.

Plus I can't imagine anybody would actually choose to move from London to a lovely place like Salford.

Well, I'm from the south but I find Clarkson a breath of fresh air in his Sunday Times column. I like his Yorkshire bluntness and the fact that he has the courage to say what he thinks and to hell with p c and 'elf and safety.
flip-flop is probabvly right - TG won't move if Clarkson won't.
two men that inspire me and would believe anything that came out of their mouths ---
CLARKSON and PAXMAN
i very much like mr clarkson
I like Clarkson when he's on TV but I don't think I'd like to go to a dinner party with him there.
Clarkson is simply being mischievious - because he can.

Anyone with an ounce of sense knows that the BBC's move to Salford is based on a seriously dodgy premise (let's be less London-centric) and will cause masses of rersetnment as staff are uprooted and forced to move to see through the vision of someone who will be long gone before the dust settles.

Clarkson loves to pour petrol on a bonfire - he doesn't care about the move to Salford. Why would he? he is utterly unaffected by it, and delights in teasing his media colleagues who do not have his clout.

In this instance, Clarkson is right - it's a stupid idea asking to be laughed at, and he is obliging, as am I, albeit on a much smaller and less public scale.
Salford doesn't want him anyway!
Well if Salford doesnt want him there is no way we want him on the other side of the pennines!
I can't speak for anybody else down here, but as far as I'm concerned he's more than welcome in the best city in the UK - London.
i'd be quite happy to have him up in my manor.

in fact, i was a little bit emotional when i knew he'd been on the leicester to loughborough railway. knowing he was so close an'all.
Doesn't he live on the isle of man though - less distance to travel!
no, chipping norton.
next door to rebekkah brooks.
postdog - JC has a holiday home on the island - his wife is an islander, but as advised, he lives in Chipping Norton. The media, in its infinite stupdity is trying to create a sub-genre of the chattering class called the 'Chipping Norton Set'.

Yes it does sound stupid, and yes, it is made up, and yes we get the press we deserve - again!
