70's/80's Drama Series - Crazy Diver Murders

Help, this has been doing my head in for ages - can anyone remember the name of a drama series which I think was on the BBC late 70's/early 80's.  It was about some grisly murders which happened in a small village.  I think it turned out that a diver who had gone mad with the bends was commiting the murders.  It used some dodgy fx to show us what the murderer was seeing and I think Mrs McClusky (Gwyneth Powell) from Grange Hill was in it.  I've googled it many times but no luck - anyone remember it ?

Sounds a bit like "The Nightmare Man" which has just been released from the BBC on DVD.

Not wanting to spoil it, I think it was a Russian Cosmonaught.

I'd already tried IMDB (natch!) but thanks Sequin.   Tony, I'm going to check out The Nightmare Man as I think you may be right.  Odd that its out this week...thanks for your help.
