Cooking programmes! There are so many of them and they are all so completely dull. They add a bit of dramatic background music while someone stares at a merigue through an oven door.

I guess a lot of people do find this sort of thing entertaining or there wouldn't be so many of the bloody things but I can't begin to understand why.

I dont like them either, I have never watched them long enough to see the dramatic music unfold thankfully ;)
I can't stand soap operas or 'reality' telly... I just avoid them and only get annoyed when not having a TV and not reading a particular paper still isn't enought to avoid the bloody things (I'm thinking mainly of big brother at its peak and x-factor dross). Cookery programs are great though :c)

Glad I'm not the only one. I wouldn't usually hang around to hear see the drama of a bit of egg and sugar collapse either but I'm being forced to endure this one. so I will try to ignore it by moaning about it here. :)
Nope, I still watch Masterchef and the British Bakeoff but mostly to see if I can get any ideas. I don't otherwise care for any competition telly.

Do you need to understand why?

Just accept that people are very different, I fail to see anything remotely interesting in soaps.
I don't watch them either, ratter!
lol, mind you I dont like soaps, mainly because they are so time consuming, if you watched *all* the soaps thats hours and hours a week you cant get back :/

"Do you need to understand why?"

It would help, yeah.
Telly is there to entertain and inform. We have a choice as to what we can watch-thank goodness. "one mans meat....etc,etc.."
Personally I watch The Good Food channel more than any other. I love cooking, I trained as a chef, and it is a relaxing hobby for me. You get great recipe ideas from them. If you don't like cooking or if food isn't of interest to you then it's natural that you wont like them. Everybody is different.
Evian, I will give you a clue! they find cookery programmes interesting, you may find some women actually enjoy cooking and looking for new ideas and improving their skills!
i love cookery programmes, even if i don't particularly like the chef, and i enjoy reading cookery books too. i enjoy cooking and both give me ideas for meals.
i can't stand football programmes, or cricket, or golf and can't begin to understand why people find them entertaining :)

Ratter, you almost seem upset about the fact I don't like them.

I know all I need to know about cooking. Take two slices of toast. Place in toaster. Open tin on beans. Poor on Plate. Put in microwave. Wait till toaster pops. Spread butter. Eat.
>>>Ratter, you almost seem upset about the fact I don't like them<<<

I thought I was just answering your question!

After reading your idea of cooking it is obvious why don't find cooking programmes interesting, you don't like cooking or just cant be bothered, you answered your own question really!
Can't stand them either! The one that really gets on my nerves is "Ready steady cook" when they say they're going to cook something with the three things provided then add a multitude of other ingredients that they just have lying around.
Question Author
Well that was slightly tongue in cheek.

No, I don't really like cooking. Although I do enjoy baking from time to time. I don't find watching someone else making a souffle interesting though. In the same way others may not find my taste in programmes interesting.

How do you make the toast to put in your toaster??

Just curious:)

The most important word in you description, however, is EAT. I like that part.
I don't cook much and don't enjoy it either, but I love cookery programmes. I watch everything - Masterchef, CDWM, Great British Menu, British Bakeoff, Saturday Morning Kitchen etc, etc. Am now getting into the Food Channel!
Ohhh....Naz has just reminded me.....we have a new microwave :-)
