A sliproad comes off the motorway and leads to a roundabout with 3 exits: a dead end with a burger van, a sliproad back on to the motorway, and main road in to the town.
The slip road on to the roundabout and the third exit both have two lanes. The sign for the roundabout shows exit 1 and 2 as small lines, and exit 3 as a large thick line with an arrow.
Everyone taking the third exit uses the right hand lane on to the roundabout only. Am I right in thinking we should be using both?
what arrows are painted on the road? If you get into the left lane and find it tells you to turn towards the burger van, or the slip road, you're in the wrong lane. But you could always change lanes, traffic permitting.
Doesn't matter what way the traffic goes. There are other legitimate turnings before it .. and it is a third exit.
Use the inside lane for taking third .. and you will cause someone to cut you up.
Just to add a thought to this, at very busy times if people don't use both lanes then the resultant queue will back up onto the motorway. This has obvious serious dangers.
Roadspace is limited, and needs to be used efficiently. When it is two lanes on and two lanes off, and virtually all traffic is going that way then both lanes need to be used.
