Not sure these days but a few years back they were exposed for ordering chauffeur driven cars to take then to the event at the expense of TV licence payers. Don't you just love these multi-millionaires pleading with the financially struggling man in the street to part with their hard earned cash?
I seem there was something - again a few years ago - where there was a bit of a stink because all of the presenters worked for free EXCEPT Sir Tel. And he was £10k or something for the night.
Not sure if my nearly OAP brain is playing up again though.
I think most of the performers do it for free because they get a lot of free TV time to promote their new record release or to be kept in the limelight!
Several years ago, Mr Wogan was in the media because he was getting a lot of money for presenting children in need. The thing died down and he was allowed to carry on without major public outrage.
Then fast forward to a couple of years ago when the tabloids highlighted it again (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/641
7329.stm).
I seem to remember Mr Wogan said he had no idea he was being paid that much/anything for children in need in some tabloids.
As a result I stopped giving to children in need and give directly to the NSPCC. Until Mr Wogan does Children In Need for no more than a nominal fee ie a gratia payment of say £100, Children In Need and the BBC can jog on.
I stopped giving money to this cause because T/W has been making a fortune the past years, even if he dosent get any fee now, he will be put up in a 5 star hotel with all expenses paid, which might be coming out of the donations to the charity, which is wrong IMO!!!!!!
The likes of One Direction wont be doing their record and ticket sales any harm. To be honest I find the 'stars' of Eastenders and newsreaders doing a turn a bit naff.
