Stargazing live........

I must say I was totally impressed last night when professor Cox explained the fluttering flag on the moon (yawn) when he followed it up with the correct and rather brutal, "if you still think they didn't go to the moon, stop watching now, we don't want you". Got me wondering, are there still people out there who think the moon landings were faked? Are there any abers? what are your reasons?

I like the programmes fronted by Brian Cox, sadly i can't say the same about Dara O'Brien, who likes himself way too much, and endlessly buts in.
ah no Em, I think that programme needs Dara, I think Dr Cox gets a little carried away in his scientific view points and can struggle to translate them into laymans terms, I think the fact Dara's there helps to bring the entertainment factor into the show which is essentially what it's trying to do. Oh and Liz Bonnin adds a fair bit too!
Paul do not agree, i have watched most of the programmes fronted by Brian Cox, a few i agree went over my head, that wasn't because he is a bad presenter, and only presents in scientific terms, more that i was trying to get my head around some of the theories, black holes, string, and sundry others, and as much as i was following, occasionally lost myself in the wonder of it. But i have little or no grounding in science, but that's not to say i don't understand most of what he explains. Having watched the previous outing they did, with that odious Jonathan Ross, i vowed not to watch again, so if Professor Cox goes solo, then im all ears,
fair do's em, I get it if you don't like Dara, but I definitely think that, in order to keep it a bit on the lighter side than your average documentary / factual programme they need a co-host with whom he can have a bit of banter.
You have to remember they are aiming at a young audience too, trying to get more and more people interested so I think it is an important aspect of the programme to have a kind of average joe (although Dara is clearly a clever man) to be there to think like your average viewer, I just think it makes it easier viewing.

I never used to watch anything to do with the stars ect with patrick moore as I could never understand him but now with Brian Cox he explains it much more clearly. I still don't understand fully but do get a better idea of what is happening. I don't think we will ever know what goes on beyond beyond. I believe they landed on the moon . But don't believe they will land anywhere else .
It was an excellent nights science stuff last night, what with stargazing and then adam rutherford on synthetic biology - although I think he overdid the gushing with awe bit :) The idea of biohackers seems like something taken out of a cyberpunk scifi novel :)
Anyone know who the thin chappie with glasses was sitting on the couch facing coxy and co? Didnt recognise him.....
And coxy is well known for his blunt put downs. He was once asked on the R4 Today programme about the risks to the planet of micro black holes being formed when the LHC was switched on - At least one physicist had attempted get a court injunction, citing the fear that the LHC would produce uncontrollable black holes - And coxy said, live, that anyone who thought that the LHC would produce a black hole that could offer any kind of harm was a "Snag" :) (or words to that effect)

Jeez - having a forgetful moment here - there have been, over the years on here, at least a couple of posters who have started a post in science about the conspiracy surrounding the moon landings. Only a couple though, and I dont think they were/are long term posters..........
I genuinely blame Capricorn One and the X-Files - I am convinced many of these conspiracy theorists think that Capricorn One was a documentary ;)
