Watching Coach Trip two Public School educated contestants didn't know where Kidderminster or Herne bay was obviously geography isn't on their cirriculum.
Unless you've been there or had some connection I shouldn't think many people from any type of school would know where they are. I mean, they aren't exactly centres of excellence.
Neither place has any significance in geographical or economic terms, although Kidderminster was once very important in carpet manufacture. Why regard ignorance of them as ignorance of geography ? And anyway, the people are public scholboys and neither place has a public school. Not knowing where Kimbolton or Repton are would be another matter; that would be true ignorance of geography .
I've heard of Kidderminster and have lived in Herne Bay, but I've not the first idea which coach to catch for either Kimbolton or Repton. Neither got a mention in my Geography class.
I am dismayed that people don't have a clue where different major towns and cities are in the UK, let alone knowing where they are flying off to on holiday. It's not new though - 20 years ago when I went to live in Brighton, my colleague thought that it was near Blackpool. A current colleague flying to Ibiza thought she was going to the Canary Islands. <<sigh>>
