Does anyone else find it funny that Tim Wonnacott is useless at simple maths despite often telling us about the posh private boarding school he attended?
He can never work out how much change the contestants have to give him from £300 and often gets it wrong.

Well yes, up to a point, millie.
But I don't think we can look down on a person for being bad at maths. If he was a "normal" working class person, and we criticised him for being bad at mathe, we would be slated for being arrogant and elitist.
And some people buy expensive things, like cars, just because they enjoy them. A £10,000 Rolex tells the time no better than a £100, but some people just like to have them. If they had £10,000, they woud buy a Rolex rather than pay school fees.

The principal point of private/public school education is to get the best out of the child, whatever the child's abilities, character, or difficulties in learning.It's an exercise in making the most of the material. That's all. Parents think that state schools can't do that. The private school should have smaller classes, more personal teaching, better 'pastoral care', better facilities, better funding and so on.If the boy or girl can't do maths after that, it's a certainty, or so the belief is, that they'd be no better with state education and the chances are they'd be even worse.

I went to boarding school. I don't know if the education was better or worse than any other, but I had a great time. Other girls of my age lived with their parents, and saw more of them, and did things with them at weekends, and had a great time in different ways. Educationally, I'd say it was all about even. It's all about choice.
his job is to deliver lines and chat to contestants... he is probably concentrating on what to say now, what he is to say next, and what his lines are to be for the segway into next section.
he cannot just halt his train of thought to start totting up sums.
if it is shot live, he is probably just pretending to add up while waiting for the voice in his ear to give him the answer...but its likely they have shot that scene numerous times and he knows full well the answer, but he has to be seen to be talking off the cuff...
also going to public school doesnt automatically make you a whizz a maths
