yeah it was along time ago but i just remembered someone telling me that the first film, the matrix and possibly the other two is all about jesus and christianity, in that neo represents the second coming and morpheus is john the baptist, and all sorts of stuff like that. it sounded completely true so was wondering if anyone could explain it all for me and what different things in the film are supposed to represent.

It's just one of the ways the film can be interpreted. Neo is Jesus (sent to sacrifice himself to save the world), Trinity represents the holy trinity and love, the rest of the crew on the ship are the disciples, cypher (who betrays neo) is judas, the matrix's creator is god, neo dies for the same amount of seconds or minutes as the number of days before jesus rose again, they all live underground and dream of going above all the dirt and smog (heaven). I think that's all the ones i can remember - and forgive me cus it's been a while since i saw the fim and i've got to admit it's also been a longer while since i looked at the bible.....
The Matrrix can also follows Buddhism. They believe in reincarnation and at the beginning, Neo is transported into another world. At the end he 'dies' or he is born again as something different. There are loads of philosphical debates in the film about whether or not we live in the 'real world' and if everyone sees the same things. Like dogs only see in black and white etc...
wow, I've never heard these reasons before. I thought it though like an infected computer. Smith was the virus and Neo was a program, but in order to get rid of the virus neo needed to go beat the virus, but sacraficed himself (like you have to lose a program if you 'kill' a virus) in order to get rid of it. But the Religious reasons make more sense lol. Rich
i Have to say I really felt some quite strong links to the Bible When I watched it. I'm Christian and found it quite impressive that many many people who wouldnt think twice about the Bible story loved everything about the Matrix. I also have to add that I was quite stoned when this epiphany came to me... I also heard that the Matrix was written as one film (the first one) but the movie company wouldnt make it unless the writers wrote 2 more and made it a trilogy! Maybe basing around the Bible was an easy way out. I also recently saw Ghost in the Shell...a Manga film that came out about 15 years ago - It quickly became apparent that the Matrix tottally ripped the concept off from this film - even the title sequence is robbed ( the famous green symbol lines). How do you like them eggs?
you can find more info on it here at: www.tinyurl.com/dk8H
Doesn't the 'the One' and 'Trinity' stuff seal it?
Exactly tricia!
