Cinema showing 18 cert trailers before 12 cert film

Just wondered whether this is supposed to happen? My son and his friend went to the cinema to see a 12 cert film - they are both 12. While waiting for the film to start they showed the trailers, which included a 15 and an 18 cert film, one of which really freaked the pai of them out. They said it was so scary they literally covered their faces until they thought it was over. Whay show them to an age group that arent meant to see them??

I took the kids to see the Hunger Games (12A) a couple of weeks ago and I am sure the trailers were higher than 12's too but I forgot about it til now.

Yeah, they really enjoyed it, my two had read the books but their friend hadn't and he still enjoyed the movie. What did your go to see?

They went to see the Woman in Black which is a 12, but several people I have talked to say thats quite scary as well. They did enjoy it but said it did really make them jump lol

I looked at that smow but deemed it too scary - mine will be 12 in July and 11 in August so I don't mind taking them to some 12A films - as they had already read the hunger games books (and me too!) we knew the story and it didn't seem to scary/gory so that one was fine. We went to the 7.45 showing though and it was full of adults but I have never seen a mess in the cinema like it after the film (even including going to the kids am movies) and the people in our row got up just at the crucial end bit and left!!!

I would take under 12's to see a 12/12a
It's a 12 for a reason and the Woman in Black is a 12a
12A means they must be accompanied by an adult so you could walk out if it becomes too much

trailers shown MUST equate to the film about to be screened...complain to cinema manager and/or local authority customer consumer dept..

It is as Andy says. The trailer you have seen isn't necessarily the one your son saw in the cinema.

Not exactly the same thing, but we took Mini Boo (7) to see Pirates last week, which I'm assuming was a U certificate and one of the adverts for products before it was a very provocative perfume ad featuring a scantily clad girl- which pleased Mr Boo no end, but I thought it was a bit 'off' just before a kids film.

Trailer have their own categorys I remember seeing trailers that say U trailer advertising an A film. The trailers just have some of the less scary bits.

oj - I think it depends on the content and your child. The most scared my son has been was at the 3d version of A christmas carol (rated PG) and I complained to the censors - I think it was scarier in 3d than 2d and I don't think they took that into account. You need to know your own child - there are some 12a films I think are suitable for my kids and some not - What is your view on PG films and what age they should be viewed at?

He described the trailer, and it is actually a shorter version that I saw and that was bad enough! Its a big cimena chain, dont think you can even get through to anybody personally on the phone.
