sometimes. But I wouldn't guarantee Katie Price will get one to England v Ukraine, and she wasn't on the royal barge during the jubilee pageant. Neither Uefa nor the queen really need the reflected glory she would bring.

They do, because promoters want them to attend to give a good image to the event. Others get invitations, tickets, from sponsors, others from corporations who have boxes and who want to impress their other corporate guests.

Some seem to have very little obvious connection with the event. The Royal Academy holds a preview party for the Summer Exhibition; tickets are from about £200 to £5,000. No surprise to see Grayson Perry, but Lily Allen? But the organisers literally have a red carpet, and banks of paps and press photographers, at the event. That's the glamour image that they wanted. At the time Lily Allen was someone who, among many others, fitted that image.

I heard that the A listers at red carpet events are loaned or sometimes given jewellery and dresses by the top designers for the occasion, purely for advertisement purposes.

almost certainly there for free. It's publicity for themselves as well as for the fighters.

If the promoter thinks their event will be enhanced or gain +ve publicity from a particular celeb attending then of course tickets will be available.

Any show just starting up (or struggling) will relish pix in the press of celebs going in - it's advertising they couldn't buy. They are not going to try and charge them!

I know that Paris Hilton is a waste of oxygen, newspaper column inches, and a carcass, (not to mention a fourth rate porn artiste), but she was regularly paid $10,000 to turn up at an LA nightclub because her presence/notoriety guaranteed paying guests and coverage. Sad, very very sad, but true.

Unfortunately that is the way the world works these days. When I worked at a very low level in the media I got freebies to most major British football matches and, in the grand scheme of things, I was a nobody. In fact I still am.
