Early 80s Cartoon?

My team leader at work tells me about a cartoon from when her kids were little, which was a bit like Care Bears but all the little creatures were hybrids of two animals (a bumblebee crossed with a lion became a "Bumblion", which I'm guessing was a little black and yellow striped lion with wings). Anybody have any idea a) if it's real or b) what it was called?

It was real and called the Wuzzles.  There was also Butterbear (a butterfly and bear) and a hippo that had been crossed with a rabbit.

There was one crossed between an Elephant and a Kangaroo, called Eleroo. :-)
