yes, with the charachters they had a few more twists and turns couldve made it more gripping.
however i did like the element of how you never really know someone, even if you are close to them like a mother.
The mother of a murdered daughter summed it up brilliantly when she said 'at 8 you know your child, then you start to lose them' - its very true, we learn how to close ourselves off as we grow older.
I also enjoyed how it depicted the dymanics of how living in a house with children from different marriages can often lead to fraught situations and unhealthy alliances.

Clunes is brilliantly casted as the step dad that wants to support his wife and family but isnt clouded by the lack of judgement that comes with blind love. Something any step parent will relate too. yes I enjoyed it, although i do love a good twist, which this didn't have in the end, I thought it portrayed the relationships very well. I do think about the parents of people who commit crime and how they must feel about what their child has done and i thought it was very thought provoking in that regard.
