I can't imagine any superior in any aspect of life, taking the outbursts of that arrogant little runt of a sargent like Inspector George Gently does.

He's young and it's the sixties .He has an opinion .But George doesn't let him get away with it all the time .
Have you watched it from the very beginning ?
Mind you Sqad the TV series is nowhere near what the original books were like.
They were set in East Anglia,written by Alan Hunter who lived not far from my neck of the woods in a village called Brundall .
They are now set in Durham and Sgt Bacchus doesn't feature at all in the books .

I take it you've never been in any uniformed service, then? I've been in two and have seen some so called "superior" officers as you call them who themselves needed more than just a "boot up their @rse", I can assure you.
