Once , in the early 80's, I saw this thing with (you've guessed it) Dennis Quilley in.He was a retired Colonen (or some other army rank) who'd served in Northern Ireland.A hired killer was out to get him.It turned out the hitman had bee hired by...Dennis Quilley!

It was part of a series of one-off dramas in the manner on "Tales of the Unexpected", and I seem to remember another one with John Thaw in, and that the opening titles featured some kind of white masks!

I was quite young at the time, so could be getting it mixed up with something else.

Hi, Try imdb as they have most things listed.

Denis and John Thaw were both in separate episodes of Saturday Night Thriller which aired Nov/Dec 1982.

The opening sequence from Saturday Night Thriller was a porcelain doll falling in slow motion against a white background, the camera close up on its face, and a very simple but effective synth melody from Ron Grainer playing over it, crescendo coinciding with the doll hitting the ground. I seem to recall a trickle of blood from the doll's cracked head.

Don't know if "Saturday Night Thriller" is the American title for "Thriller", but the whole series is coming out on DVD soon for 74 from play.com

more details will be on

It's the UK title.

"Saturday Night Thriller" was made by LWT and comprised of 6 episodes. It was the follow-on series from "Sunday Night Thriller" which had 7 episodes.
