(Shown on TV yesterday.) Interviewer asked " if you hadn't been comedians what would you have been ?" Eric Morecambe immediately responded "Mike and Bernie Winters !"

it was funny, but didn't seem to be a question. Had watched that interview, show about light entertainment before, loved Eric and Ernie.

I do understand the 'joke' thenry. I just didn't find them funny. I was born in the 50's by the way.

I thought they were brilliant, no swearing or nastiness. Not like todays so-called funnymen. Bob Monkhouse, Les Dawson even Benny Hill and Frankie Howerd were entertainers and Ken Dodd is still doing the rounds.

I never found M & B Winters remotely funny, and I was intrigued to hear that offscreen, it was Bernie who was the ladies' man - just goes to show, looks aren't everything.

As advised, Morcambe and Wise did provide that last link to music hall, as did Frankie Howard to a degree with his ability to involve the audience as though they were all in it together.

Times do change, as does humour, and thank heavens for that.

Best appreciation of the old music hall days is Arthur Atkinson in the Fast Show - "I've seen you wrapping presents when it's nobody's birthday ...."
