I think the term legal tender is misunderstood.
No, but generally accepted.
They are not legal tender in the sense that one can be force to accept them. However, not many people are going to refuse 2 x £100 Scottish notes when the banks will readily accept them. I can remember the days when if you presented a Scottish £1 note at the bank you would only get 19s 6 back.
Scottish notes don't even qualify as 'legal tender' in Scotland!
Scottish notes are worth just as much as English ones. However, some shops in England refuse Scottish notes. I wonder what would happen if Englsih notes were refused in Scotland.
When Scotland gains its independence will they opt for the €uro?
FAO Scots who are enraged at the refusal of Scottish notes in England, I agree, but I suffer the same crap when I come back from God's own country and present a Bank of Ireland or Ulster Bank note.

I wish certain banks, (RBOS in Falkirk to be precise) would educate their staff better. A young bank teller in there told me my Bank Of Ireland £20 notes were a different currency. When I pointed out that this was strange as the ROI now used Euros, she said, "I know, but that's an Irish pound".
hate it when my money is refused, now i just say'ok' and walk out and leave the stuff on the counter
Printing £100 notes in Scotland seems to me a pointless exercise
When working in an off licence I was told by the local police that it was easier to forge Scottish banknotes, that is why many businesses refuse to accept them.
If all banknotes were checked with the infra red pen there would be no problem. It should be an automatic thing to do no matter what nationality the bank note is .
We used to use the money marker pen method, it doesn't work on Scottish notes.
