Title of an animation - please help!

I am trying to remember the title of a vhs video I watched when I was a kid in the 90s. It was an animation and I think it was quite short, maybe between 20-35 minutes long.

All I can remember is that the main character was a raccoon, the animal was black and orange. The animation follows the raccoon around an oriental garden (I THINK it is set in China or Japan) and what it gets up to. I know it has a deadly encounter with a snake. Also, none of the animals talk, I am sure it is all set to music and sounds.

And that is ALL I can remember! PLEASE HELP!

If it's set in China it's more likely to be a red panda than a raccoon.
There is a Chinese folk tale about a red panda and a magic white serpent, maybe it has something to do with that?
