X factor winners question

I don't watch it, but used to. But my son likes it, and asked me how come most of the people who have won in the past have won because of the public voting, yet when they then release a record the public dont buy it and they just disappear.

Any reasons??

Can you give an example? Most have a big first hit and some then go quiet but suddenly bounce back (like Little Mix). Some are not household names like Joe McElderry (was he X factor?) but have had success with albums or in other areas (didn't Joe do some opera?)

Steve Brookstein,Leon jackson, Joe McElderry.....
Even Matt Cardle and Shayne Ward didnt have anywhere near the success they expected although I think Shayne has gone into musicals ie Rocky Horror Show. Only Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke really hit the big time.

It seems almost that in both X factor and Britains Got Talent you do better coming 2nd or 3rd!

Could it be that Syco make more money from the process of making a 'star' than actually supporting and promoting one?

I wouldn't write Matt Cardle off. He actually writes his own songs which can mean albums take longer to produce.

It just seems that the programme is so into them when they are on the programme, telling them how fabulous they are, and then dont seem to support them after. Makes you wonder who actually does get the public vote each week.

I am not surprised about Stephen Brookstein a she seemed pretty average to me. But, like Shane Ward and some others, he did at least have a number one single before disappearing to do cruise ship cabaret or whatever he does. Matt Cardle has a new single out but it sounded weak to me.
There have been some successes though- Will Young? Leona Lewis/ Alexandra Burke? One Direction (did they win or come second?)
I watched the last year and although i can remember who came 2nd , 3rd and 4th I can't remember the name of the winner.

F30 will young was Pop Idol. One direction were third behind Cardle and Rebecca ferguson and, as for the Voice, me neither( she had a big voice and was with Tom Jones but other than that...)

They do - do better coming second or third - they are not winners so can go out and use their new found fame straight away best eg. JLS ( yeah !! ) the syco management that a winner is placed under puts certain obligations in the winners contract first - a round of tours from January - March ( ok so the whole lot of finalists do this but are not contracted so can do other things too ) then promotions with their new company - image creating - meetings to see where their future lies ( eg Joe MaEldery - went on a few months long stint to America to see if he was right of the High school musical series ? don't know how he got on, but anyway, by the time all this is done the Summer has gone and so they settle down to create their first album, of which one record is chosen to become their single - by the time they record it and release it, well it's half way through the next series. Meantime the ones who came second or third have recorded a few hits already

But dont you think they all find their level of work look at Ollie Murs (yum yum) he's having a ball doing what he 's doing - then again he didn't win either did he

Sorry but THE VOICE was just rubbish - I loved the first round - the idea of not seeing the contestant was genius - but once they were exposed it fell flat it was all image lighting staging and song choice ( a poor bridesmaid to X factor )
