Isn't it a remake of the old one?

According to a snippet in the BBC it's about a divorced father who has to save his kids when aliens attack the earth.

More details will easily be found using google or on the official site.  Enjoy.

Incidentally, there's a British based version in production which will actually be based on the HG Wells novel. Contrary to the review on the IMdB, the UK version pre-dates the Tom Cruise version.

There's a trailer online for the "true to the novel" one. Unfortunately it looks as if it was made by the local Am Dram group from the footage on show :-(.

I think some of you are confusing news of a "close to the Book" version and a British version as one-and-the-same.

There was an American TV Movie version that was completed not so long ago, and that apparently stayed close to the book, and I think was partly shot in this country.

The rights holders to the Geoff Wayne ( appologies if I have spelt the name wrong ) 1970's musical version are also seeking funding for an Computer Generated animated version of the album. I think they have Sony interested.

Tony - no, the one I'm talking about is an English production by Pendragon Pictures. As for Jeff Wayne, he has also just released a 7-disc version of the album, and is, as you say, seeking funding for an animated version.

Waldo McFroog

As a long time afficinado of the original War of the Worlds (Jeff Wayne) I am now intrigued, what is on the other 5 disks more songs? more Burton?

sorry WaldoMcFroog, then that makes 4 recent versions produced or in pre-production.

siratalmusta, the trailer and teaser trailers are online

Isn't it about time the americans stopped making their own versions and made a proper version.

I for one am getting a little fed up with these US films that bare no resemblance to the book but have the gall to nick the title.. Whats wrong with them. Is it because it is a great story by a british writer.

If they want to make alien films fine, but in future Hollywood if your not going to do it right then don't do it at all.

Thing is its got two little kids in it and its Spielberg.

It probably Sugar sweet and schmaltzy not at all what I would want or expect it to be.

doesnt tom cruise get a faceful of water in it at some point ?? oh no, thats the premiere! silly me

Its meant to be kept to the story, but its set in modern day america so..........

personally i think a faithful remake to the book would be far better and would make for an awesome spectacle.

victorian england and man powerless against these gleaming tripods with their heat rays.

the current movie should be good tho and has to be taken on its own merits.

a century ago nobody knew anything much about Mars, and the prospect of there being hostile Martians was more or less plausible. Now we know perfectly well there aren't any; so just doing Wells's story straight would look daft. So changes get made.
Jno, your point doesn't make sense. If we know Martians don't exist how does setting it in the modern world make any sense.

The whole point of the H.G Wells story is that man is powerless to stop the martians but in the end something as tiny and insignificant as bactria can.

There are bound to be missles abound in this one with America saving the day.

Le Marchand  Thanks for this. I wont be buying :-)
