Rte 1 Player

I managed to record the second half of a programme on RTE on Sunday night but wanted to see it all on RTE player. I was told it was not available in my area. Can anyone enlighten me about why this should be, as it was transmitted to here (NI)?

We are in the republic and get all the BBC & ITV programmes, but when I try the BBC player it tells me 'not available in this region'. It's something to do with licence agreements. Though strangely, we can use 4OD (though not for everything).
RTÉ only has the broadcasting rights to transmit programmes within the Republic. Obviously it can't stop radio waves from crossing the border into NI but it's legally obliged to block such online content to web users whose IP addresses show that they're outside of the Republic.
Similarly you can't watch most BBC iPlayer content when you're outside of the UK.

I am in Northern Ireland and I can get RTE1 and RTE2, but if there is a fault and
I telephone Virgin/Media, they tell me "Its a radio station and not TV" and then
someone eventually comes through and tell me "oops you get it because you
are paying for extra stations that you cannot receive" confused! yes so am I.
I pay them £65 per month and that does NOT include telephone calls.
