Oliver (1968)

Remember the film Oliver ? The 1968 version starring Ron Moody as Fagin & Oliver Reed as Bill Sykes.There was the scene where Oliver wakes up overlooking a park & a girl begins to sing 'Who will buy these sweet red roses',what follows is a spectacular song & dance scene.Does anyone know the location,it reminds me very much of Cartwright Gardens in Bloomsbury,but i would love to know for sure.

I dont know the answer I'm afraid but I love love love this film. Best bit is when Fagin goes off at the end and Doder pops out from behind something and they start singing about their new life together.. nice to know the Fagin/Dodger relationship lives on. Isn't all of Oliver done in London?

mostly shot on huge sets, and I'm pretty sure the 'Bloomsbury' scene (which is beautiful) is one of them. The production designer was John Box, so I guess he gets the credit. imdb says Bath for the opening scene, Shepperton Studios for the rest.

I've been through Bath and always thought that it looked like that song part of the film though I don't know for sure.

So what am I to do, to keep the sky to bluuuuuuue?

Hi bluenose, not seen the film for years so don't remember the scene, but I'd be interested to know as I used to live in Cartwright Gardens.

Bluenose. Believe it or not that was a set it was not real.  The was a programme recentle taht brought the cast back together after 30 odd years and the set where that scene was filmed is not a housing estate
