Dr. Who

Just done an AB search for Dr. Who and was reminded that originally he had his grand daughter Susan travelling with him. Has there ever been any mention of Mrs. Who, or indeed Susan's parents ?

David Tennant's Doctor told Rose that he "was a father once", so I guess that meant one of Susan's parents

There has been no mention in the TV series of the Doctor's child or children, so we don't know if it is Susan's mother or her father who is the offspring of the Doctor.
David Tennant's Doctor mentioned having a brother.

The character of Susan was originally intended to be just a travelling companion, but the writer of that first story in 1963, Anthony Coburn, wasn't comfortable with the idea, so made Susan the Doctor's granddaughter.

Dr Who (Dr spelt Dr) was the Peter Cushing character.

Doctor Who (Doctor ALWAYS spelt Doctor) never had a granddaughter called Susan. It's a different character. The daughter he was referring to was Jenny:

@Ellipsis. I was not aware that the Dr. as portrayed by Peter Cushing was outside the canon, as you mention, until I looked it up and you are right.

I am confused by your point about the Doctor not having a "grand-daughter" called Susan. - Did you read the link I offered earlier? Because that seems to contradict that assertion quite strongly...

You're right LazyGun. I was talking about the Susan who was the granddaughter in the Peter Cushing films. It had slipped my mind that there was a different Susan in the TV programs ...

I think folk take these fictional things too seriously sometimes. Clearly this is the same character, can only be one who battles Daleks. But as time goes on different writers add and change bits to suit themselves and their intended audience. I'm unsure when they first came up with the idea of a timelord but suspect it was probably the first time they had to replace the actor, playing the doctor in the series (William Hartnell --> Patrick Troughton ?).

There seems no reason why he couldn't have been married on Gallifrey and had children and grandchildren but historically they would have been destroyed in the Time War.
