can anyone explain the ending of The Decent?

Sarah discovers that er... her mate was having an affair with her husband and sticks the pick axe in her leg thus condemning her to die. then exhausted she falls asleep and has one of her dreams - this time that she finds a way out - that she has been prone to throughout the film. She wakes from her dream still in the cave and, resigned to her fate, she hallucinates about her daughters birthday which sort of comforts her because maybe she feels she will be reunited with her soon.
