Video To Tv

Thank you Buenchico. The camera is a Sony Hi8 and the telivision is a 42inch Phillips flat screen. I have connected the camera to the tv as you suggested but cannot get a picture on the tv. What do I need to do to the tv?

Thanks for your answer. I have gone through every channel on the tv after connecting the camera but to no avail

I remember having to tune my tv using 'fine tuning' until my film appeared. I also recall it was supposed to be the old setting we called the 'video channel' that we used to watch videos.

I also remember it always took me ages to connect everything up properly as I got confused by all the connections between TV, sky'digi box, video recorder etc.
I wish i could get mine working again. I've loads of stuff on old camcorder tapes that I'd love to move onto computer and edit

Going through every channel wont help.

Most TVs nowadays have multiple input sockets - scart, HDMI, etc etc.

You need to rotate round all these different "input sockets" (using the remote control) until you find the one that you camcorder signal is coming "in" on.

You definitely need to seek a button on the remote control which allows you (either directly or indirectly) to set the TV's source as 'AV' (or similar). Your TV set is designed to display a signal provided by its internal tuner; if you don't tell it to ignore that tuner, and accept a signal from elsewhere, it won't be able to display the picture and sound from your video camera.

If there's a 'direct acccess' button on the remote control, it's likely to be labelled 'AV', 'AV1', 'Ext', 'Ext1', 'In', 'Line', Line In', 'Aux', or 'Aux1'.

However most modern TVs now use a 'Source' button as a first step. That's likely to be labelled 'Source', 'Src' or, most likely of all, to show an arrow pointing into a rectangle or circle. Pressing that button should bring up an on-screen menu, allowing you to scroll to 'AV' (or something similar, as above) and select that option.

After viewing the output from your camera, you'll need to switch the TV back to its normal status. If you made the change by pressing a single button (such as 'AV') then either pressing it again, or pressing a 'TV' button should get things back to normal. If you used some type of 'Source' button, and then scrolled through a menu, you'll need to repeat the process to find an input labelled 'TV', 'Aerial', 'Antenna', 'RF' or something similar.
