Did anyone else watch it - I caught up with it on itvplayer - now that was poverty and it was considered a crime - no social services then -

I found it really sad and hard to watch it. We dont realise how lucky we are today, whether you believe it or not!

Saw some of it. Many today seem to hold the same opinion. If you didn't make it then you're not good enough and it's your own fault.

Tues ITV 9 o'clock anneasquith, I watched the first of two episodes on ITV player. Seems like the hardships Dickens wrote about in his books were actually true.

I felt very sorry for Brian Cox's relative (great-grandfather?) he just seems to have spent a good portion of his time going in and out of the poorhouse.
It seemed quite a shock to Barbara Taylor Bradford that her mother was illegitimate - wouldn't she have known beforehand? It will be interesting to watch the next episode.
One of my nan's brothers died in York Union workhouse. He lived at home but had TB so was sent into the workhouse hospital.
