Inserting frames?!?!?!?

Does anyone know anything about the process of putting in only one frame in a film or whatever say a picture of a can of coke so that the audience feels thirsty but doesn't know why. Its illegal I think. Anyway any info?

They were known as "flash-frames", and yes, they were banned. They popped up a lot in the 1980's. I remember that the BBC comedy "The Young Ones" would often include a flash-frame.
Apart from the brainwashing effect it had..I believe it also used to trigger fits in people suffering with epilepsy.
still happens in films. For example anyone who has watched "the Ring" will notice that there is a flash frame of the ring symbol in between scenes, anyone with a copy will find it immidietly at the end of the scene where the horse jumps of the ferry on route to the island

I think the young ones flash frame which caused complaints had a test card and a script - Copy writers are so sexy I must go to bed with one immediately......I cant remember the exact details - it wasnt on very long.

There was an excellent Columbo in the 70's featuring subliminal pictures.
