I've had it on DVD since Christmas, yet still have'nt got round to seeing it, whilst I consider myself a pretentious film snob, am I missing something rather special?

I first watched it when I was about 10 and it suddenly clicked that Vietnam was a war that had happened in my lifetime and, like most Nam films, it isn�t all the glory that I was used to from watching the Second World War films that I loved as a kid. Very harrowing and very moving. Memorable soundtrack as well, if I remember rightly.
I sat in the cinema and cried like a girl at the end - you will see why when you watch the film. War is not about 'heros' and 'great deeds' - it's about ordinary people, on both sides, who have their lives shattered by circumstances which they cannot control, and simply have to try and live with. The strong survive - in a way.
