Anyone else watch this? I am obviously a numpty as it never occurred to me that 'brands' would make sub-standard goods to sell cheaply in discount stores. (I bought two pairs of Kickers that turned out to be broccoli (one from TXMaxx for a knock-down price and one from Sports Direct at full Kickers price) needless to say, I have just sent Kickers an email to ask if they produce different standard goods for these stores), makes you think though.

Rocky, I generally buy Primark/Asda but last year I had to buy everyone new shoes after about five weeks so thought I would get decent shoes this year.

The one thing I rarely buy in cheap shops is shoes, with the exception of sandals. I bought daughter some school shoes in Matalan a couple of years ago, they lasted about 4 weeks, never again.

But saying that, I got the kids some mock Crocs from B & M for £1.50 and they have hammered them (although we didn't actually go very far this summer).

I watched this and was a shocked as you even though I don't buy brands as a rule. I do try to buy quality shoes and get Sketchers and Hush puppies from online discounted stores but I've not had a problem with them so far. I wouldn't deliberately do labels in clothes, I don't see why I should pay to do their advertising for them. Stupid people such as the girl they spoke to last night who would pay £30 more for exactly the same item just because it had a logo are asking to get ripped off.

I watched a documentary a few months ago - Poundland? 99p shops? That sort of thing anyway, and the MD said that big brands were happy to supply smaller bottles just for them so they could sell that at £1 (or 99p) so in reality there was often no real saving eg. Tesco sells 200 ml of shampoo for £2, Poundland sells 100ml for £1 often in the same size bottle with the appropriate labelling.

The justification was the poor people can't afford to shell out £2 a time for shampoo.

Have bought several items at TK Maxx and they have all been excellent quality, it's one of my favourite Stores.
Best thing is to change brand as the Kickers you bought must have been sub-standard

I meant to watch it but seems i forgot. Maybe the answer is that if you see a brand at a discount store then it's worth avoiding it everywhere ?

The £ store thing is not so bad. One can see the qualtity on the packaging. Although folk ought to know it can be special size and so not necessarily a bargain.

Didn't see it, I was out, but I've always believed that TKMAXX bought in ends of lines etc, not selling substandard branded stuff.

We had a plumber in to look at an electric shower we'd had installed, by someone else, a year earlier, it was a well known brand, purchased from a major DIY store, think 2 letters. The plumber brought in the identical shower to show us that the internal fittings were superior to those in the one from the DIY store. Apparently, a cheaper version is made to be sold at a discounted price in the big stores.

I've ventured into TKMaxx and agree with others about the jumble sale feel about the place. There are some good quality bargains to be had in the kitchen department though.

I've never been in a 99p/£1 shop, I don't know where there is one near me.

Everyone is commenting on TKMaxx being like a jumble sale. The one down here must be an exception. Its on two floors,and always tidy...and busy. Maybe management is the problem? I've bought loads there...and have never had any problems with quality. I too assumed they dealt in end of lines...and stuff from America. They've got the best selection of housewares at good prices. I buy all my pots and pans there.

Like I said earlier, TK Maxx is probably my favourite Store and everything I have bought from them has been good quality.
Staff at these Stores have to clear up the mess that these so called customers make

TK Maxx is great if you know what you want and are not 'label shopping'. They sell some really nice clothes at decent prices. If you need a prom dress/bridesmaids dress/ballgown at a cost of below £50.00 then you could do worse than buying it there.
